The National Identity Management Commission says it has suspended the issuance of National Identification cards for the next three years.
Director General of the commission, Aliyu Aziz, stated this at a conference in Ibadan.
Aziz explained that due to economic difficulties in the country, the commission has decided to only issue out identification numbers without the cards to those who enroll.
He said the identification number, which is unique to an individual, was more significant than the cards.
Aziz added that the commission was committed to resolving all difficulties relating to the procedure of obtaining national identification numbers in the country.
